He married Norma Jean Thompson on June 1, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple. They later divorced. He married Dolores McKell Steele in March 1974.
Bert was a farmer; and he worked as a machinist at Pacific States Cast Iron & Pipe Company for thirty years. He loved raising and racing Quarter Horses.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores; his children: Alan of West Valley City, Utah; Glen (Doris) of Craig, Colorado; Garth of Spanish Fork, Utah; Don of Spanish Fork, Utah; Laurie DeHass of Orem, Utah. Also survived by stepchildren: Sandra Ash, Spanish Fork, Utah; Pat (Ralph) Peart of Palm Harbor, Florida; Mike (Sherrie) Steele of Sandy, Utah; Gary (Celeste) Steele of Benjamin, Utah; and Kent Steele of Lake Shore, Utah; Additionally survived by three sisters: Ann LaMoth of Kearns, Utah; Ruth Thompson of Payson, Utah; Joyce Livingston of Orem, Utah; and one brother: Grant Aitken of Spanish Fork, Utah. Bert is preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Aitken; and a son, Neil Aitken; as well as by two sisters: Alta Rowley and Donna Measom; and a brother, Reed Aitken.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at 12:00 p.m. at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
