Elizabeth Knapp Morris was the daughter of Jacob Knapp Sr. (after whom Knapp's Creek is named), and the step-sister of the famous evangelist, Jacob Knapp Jr., a contemporary Baptist minister to her husband, Rev. Samuel Dexter Morris.

Jacob Knapp Sr. was married at least twice and maybe three times. Researchers agree that his first wife was Lucinda Mayhew of whom he fathered twelve children, of which Rev. Jacob Knapp Jr. was the fourth. His second wife was Mary "Polly" Calhoun with whom he fathered seven children of which Elizabeth Cordelia (Knapp) Morris was the third, born in 1818 after they arrived in Eldred, McKean, Pennsylvania.

Two of Samuel and Elizabeth's sons were named after prominent Baptist missionaries, John Adoniram Judson Morris (1844-1865) and Dr. Jacob Eugenio Kincaid Morris (1856-1939).

"Mrs. Elizabeth Morris, widow of the late Rev. Samuel Dexter Morris, died yesterday at noon, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Martin Ferrin, 400 North Ninth Street. Mrs. Morris was eighty-four years old and for the past fifteen years she has resided in this city and has made very many friends, who regret her parting. A family of five daughters and one son survive, as follows: Mrs. Matilda Cohoon of Bullis Mills, Mrs. Mary Creighton and Mrs. John Feller of Olean, Mrs. Chas. Bishop of Port Allegany, and Mrs. Martin Ferrin and Dr. J. E. K. Morris of Olean. A prayer will be offered at 2 o'clock at the house and the funeral services will be held at 2:30 at the church tomorrow."

THE LAST SAD RITES.
Funeral of the Late Mrs. Elizabeth Morris Yesterday

Rev. Chas. H. Dodd of Newark, N. J., conducted the funeral services of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Morris at the Baptist church at 2:30 yesterday afternoon. Fifteen years ago the Rev. Dodd performed the same ceremony in the same church over the remains of Rev. Samuel Dexter Morris, husband of the deceased. Rev. Dodd performed the ceremony yesterday in compliance with the expressed wish of Mrs. Morris that he should do so. His sermon was a most touching and beautiful tribute to the woman whom he has long considered almost in the relationship of mother, with whom he formerly made his home and to whose memory he is indebted for kindly advice and words of encouragement. The members of the family who are left to cherish the memory of a mother and grandmother whose teachings and example were unexcelled, while they feel keenly their loss, by her death, were yet thrilled by the tribute paid by Rev. Dodd to the memory of the deceased. She was one of the very exceptionally few characters who were never in doubt as to the right and wrong of her course in life and she followed the right path rigidly. Rev. Dodd was assisted by Rev. J. L. Sooy of the M. E. church, and a quartet composed of C. R. Smith, Mrs. J. F. Pierce, Fred Hodges and Mrs. M. L. Waldorf, sang. There was a profusion of flowers, individual and collective gifts to the memory of a beloved friend or relative, consisting largely of roses and astors. The services at the cemetery were the last respectful acts of those on earth to the memory of a noble Christian life; one whose influence for good was undoubted and incalculable. Among the friends and relatives from out of town were: Mrs. John Bush, Smethport; Mrs. W. A. Young, Mrs. J. W. Llewellyn, C. C. Moses, Dr. W. L. Chrisman, Mrs. Ortman, Miss Mary C. Simpson, Miss Elizabeth Moses, Eldred; Rev. and Mrs. Miles Tupper, Mrs. John Wright, Allegany; Mr. and Mrs. Milian Smith, Portville; Mrs. Richards, Bell Run; Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Read, Mrs. Lamyra Stevens, Delevan; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bishop and family, Port Allegany.
