Lelia was born in a makeshift hospital in the Adirondacks where her father was receiving treatments (and later died) for tuberculosis.
Lelia was married three times, in 1918 to Robert Russell Dickey Jr. (divorced), in 1934 to Newbold Noyes of the publishing family (he died in 1942), and in 1970 to the Rev. Albert Hawley Lucas, who died in 1973. She ran the Lelia Noyes Dress Shop on Connecticut Avenue in Washington DC for 30 years. Lelia was an accomplished artist, at painting and needlepoint, including needlepointing several kneelers at the Washington National Cathedral.
Mother of Basil Gordon Dickey b1922, Robert Russell Dickey III b1925, Lelia Sinclair Dickey b1928, and Peter Montague Dickey b1931. Great-granddaughter of Bazil Gordon, who purchased Wakefield Manor Farm in 1822. He is credited at having the first million-dollar cash sale of tobacco, and often credited as being Virginia's First Millionaire.
Lelia served as a bridesmaid at the first wedding of Wallis Warfield (later the Duchess of Windsor and second cousin) to E. Winfield Spencer in 1916. On this occasion, she wore "a gown of orchid-colored silk faille, made en bouffant, with a wide girdle of French blue velvet," with a matching hat garnished with a silver rose. She carried a bouquet of yellow snapdragons.
