Professional Baseball Player. He played in the Negro Leagues during the 1920s. His name is listed as Forest Alven Maddox although some sources including his headstone have his name listed as Forrest. He was born in Fulton County, Georgia, to Duncan Maddox and his wife Julia Ward Maddox on November 30, 1897, although some sources say November 30, 1898. He was educated locally and attended the prestigious Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He played as an outfielder, centerfielder, relief pitcher, and rightfielder, with the Birmingham Black Barons making his professional baseball debut with them in 1923. The outfielder, centerfielder, relief pitcher, and right fielder, who also batted right and threw right played with them through the baseball season of 1923. His 162 Game Average consisted of 7 Games Played, 440 Plate Appearances, 370 At Bats,93 Runs Scored, 69 Hits, 0 Doubles, 0 Triples, 0 Homeruns, 0 Runs Batted In, 0 Stolen Bases, 0 Caught Stealing, 23 Walks, 0 Strikeouts, 0 Intentional Walks, 0 Hit By Pitch, 46 Sacrifice Hits, 0 Sacrifice Flies, 0 Grounded Into Double Plays, .188 Batting Average, ..235 On Base Percentage, .188 Slugging Percentage, .423 On Base Percentage Plus Slugging Percentage, and 37 Adjusted On Base Percentage Plus Slugging Percentage. Following his professional baseball career, he worked as a Professor at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, until his death. He passed away from complications of tuberculosis in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 4, 1929, at the age of about 30 or 31. Following his death, his funeral service was held through Ivey Bros. Funeral Directors of Atlanta, Georgia, and the Cosmopolitan A.M.E. Church in Atlanta, Georgia, with Professor C.D. Hubert of Morehouse College officiating with a local pastor. Following the funeral service, he was buried in South View Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia. He never married nor had any children.
