Rev. Lamar Henry Zeigler, Sr., was born to the late Mr. Henry Zeigler and Mrs. Virginia Howell Zeigler of Wetumpka, Ala. Before joining the Central Alabama Methodist Conference as a minister in 1915, he taught school for several years. He served the following pastorates during his sixty-one years as a minister:

He served and built the St. Paul Methodist Church in Evergreen, Ala., and also built the Morning Star Methodist Church in Bessemer, Ala.
Other pastorates include Lafayette, Ala., West Point, Ga., St. John Methodist Church and the Haven United Methodist Church in Anniston, Ala. He retired from service from the St. John Methodist Church in 1964. He was District Superintendent for the Opelika District for a number of years. He also served as Secretary for the Central Alabama Conference for 25 years.

Rev. Zeigler was married to the late Miss Hattie Laston of Coosa county, Ala. To this union two girls and three boys were born. One son, Nathaniel, and daughter, Mrs. Gwendolyn Hill, preceded him in death. He later married Miss Leila Williams who was a constant help and source of inspiration as they labored together. She passed away on September 1, 1973.

Rev. Zeigler was a graduate of the Alabama State Normal School, Montgomery, Ala., Central Alabama College of Mason City, Ala., received a degree of Doctor of Sacred Theology from Princeton University, September 16, 1920.

He departed this life to live with the saints and heavenly host on Saturday, September 8, 1973 at 3:50 P.M., at Anniston Memorial Hospital.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Mr. Toussaint Zeigler of West Point, Ga., and Mr. Lamar Henry Zeigler, Jr., of Battle Creek, Michigan; one daughter, Mrs. Lucile Greenwood, Lanette, Ala.; a devoted niece whom he raised, Rev. Julia McCain Walker; two sisters, Mrs. Zelma Crowder of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Ressie Zeigler of Wetumpka, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
