Delmar Banbury passed away peacefully on June 25 due to natural causes. He was 84.

Delmar was born January 16, 1936 to Etta and Arleigh Banbury and was the youngest of five children. Growing up he was a gifted athlete, excelling in basketball and baseball. Delmar married his high school sweetheart, Sue Barnes. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary on June 22, 2020.

Delmar’s career as a trucking owner-operator flourished during the days of regulated freight rates and strong unions, ultimately culminating in forty years as a teamster, and over one million miles traveled. He was also involved in the management and care of the family farm his entire life. Delmar was quietly passionate about many things and was a positive influence on all those around him - usually through a good deed or an engaging story. His kindness and patience, especially with his children and grandchildren, was his defining trait. He was an avid sportsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing trips, boating and waterskiing with family, gardening, and many fun family vacations. In the 1980s he started the Glenmont Gun Show fundraiser to endow funds for the restoration and care of the Glenmont School building. The successful event continues to this day.

In retirement, Delmar and Sue traveled extensively with family and friends, and he remained an active member of St John’s Church of Christ in Millersburg. Delmar is survived by his wife Sue, and three children: Jill (Mike) Shawd of Barlow, OH; Julie (Dave) Robinson of Bloomingdale, OH; and Doug (Beth) Banbury of Shaker Heights, OH, and six grandchildren: Elliott, Adam, Sam, Aaron, Reid, and Ellie.

We are blessed to have had such a wonderful person in our lives for so many years. May he rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John’s Church of Christ in Millersburg. A private funeral service is planned.
