Mrs. Evelyn Allen Jagoe, widow of Armiger Louis Jagoe, sister of George E. Allen and niece of the famed “Private” John Allen, former congressman from Mississippi, died in Washington rather suddenly, and will be buried there Friday.
George Allen, confidant to several presidents and author of the volume “Presidents Who Have Known Me” and Mrs. Jagoe, natives of Booneville, have lived in Washington for many years. Mr. Jagoe, formerly a banker at Gulfport, went to Washington with Sen. Pat Harrison and was in government service prior to his death 20 years ago.
Mrs. Jagoe, gracious and hospitable, was a leading member of Mississippi groups in Washington, and assisted members of the Mississippi congressional delegation in many contacts through the years.
Besides the brother, who divides his time between Washington and Palm Springs, Calif., she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. R. L. Welpton of Atlantis, Fla., and a son, A. L. Jagoe, Jr., of Kensington, Md., and by four grandchildren.
Interment will be made in Rock Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Jagoe was a member of the Christian Science Church.
