Claremonter Samuel W. Keck died Tuesday, November 23 in the Pilgrim Place Health Center."
Born in Odebolt, Iowa on August 23, 1887, he moved to Claremont in 1960 after a life of ministerial work in the Congregational church. He served 2 pastorates in South Dakota, 3 in Hawaii and as interim minister in San Dimas, San Marcos, Ventura and San Bernardino
He was South Dakota state conference Superintendent in 1928, and in 1952 he joined the National Congregational Board of Home Missions in New York until 1960.
Two years ago, Mr. Keck was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame and flew back for the ceremonies in Bismarck
He was a member of the Claremont United Church of Christ, Congregational.
He is survived by 2 daughters, 4 grand and one great-grandchild children and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, and a son, Samuel.
Memorial services were held Friday at Claremont United Church of Christ, Congregational. Private graveside services were held in the Oak Park Cemetery.
A memorial fund is being established in his name at Yankton College, South Dakota.
Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona was in charge of arrangements.
