Harriett was born October 11, 1928 in Post, Texas, Garza County to the late Harry John (1969) and Margie Vaughn Baker-Dietrich (1981). She graduated Post High School and married Arvel R. McBride, February 9, 1947. They settled in Alvarado in 1950 and had two daughters. They were married 43 years before Arvels's death September 24, 1987.
Harriett worked the Alvarado Drug store when her children were young and sold Avon for 15 years, winning numerous awards for sale achievement. In the 1960's she helped organize the Girl Scout troops to the Alvarado community. In 1969 she became a bank teller at Citizens State Bank later renamed Alvarado Community Bank, which later became known as Alvarado State Bank. She became an officer of the bank before her retirement 22 years later. During her banking years she was on the first committee, which organized the Alvarado Santa's Helpers organization. She served as treasurer for many years and loved to shop for the children. She was very proud of Santa's Helpers and how many people they were able to help each year. She was a member of the Alvarado Planning and Zoning for several years. In 1985 she opened Video Junction in Grandview. The following year she opened a second Video Junction in Alvarado. After 15 years she retired from the video business. In 2001 she worked medical records in a physicians office.
She loved to travel with her friends and enjoyed musicals and movies. She also helped deliver Meals on Wheels. She truly loved her church and all the members. She was preceded in death by her husband Arvel in 1987, brother James Dietrich (1977) of Post, Texas and brother Bob Dietrich (2005) Hamlin, Texas.
She was blessed with many lifelong friends. Too many to name each, but they gave her encouragement, love and support. Many called her each day, which was deeply appreciated. They gave her laughter and joy. She loved each and everyone.
