Evelyn Jarrett Sutton, 87, of Webster, died Wednesday, May 3, at Harris Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 5, in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home. Burial was at Long Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Billy Ray Sneed, Perry Sutton, Ray Buchanan, Junior Monteith, Clifton Sutton and Ray Knight.

A native of Dillsboro, she was the daughter of the late Marcus Y. and Minnie Snyder Jarrett and the wife of the late R.D. "Chick" Sutton. She and her husband were former owners and operators of the Greystone Lodge for many years.

She attended Asheville Normal School and Cullowhee Teacher¹s College and taught in public schools in Jackson and Cherokee counties. She was a member of Jarrett Memorial Baptist Church for more than 65 years and served as Sunday school teacher and church pianist for many years. She was a member of WMU and served as president and mission support chairman.

She retired in 1974 as postmaster of Dillsboro Post Office, after serving 27 years.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Whitworth of Asheville.

She is survived by two nephews, Harold Morgan of Whittier and Larry Morgan of Arden; one great-nephew; and two great-great-nephews.
