82-year-old Cecil Eugene (Gene) Allen of McLeansboro, passed away at 10:05 a.m. on Monday, July 6 at home surrounded by his family. He was born February 21, 1938 to Cecil Allen and Ruth ( Sutherland ) Allen. Gene married the love of his life, Mae Cantrell, on June 20, 1959.
Gene is survived by his wife of 61 years Mae Allen; two daughters, Genia (David) Nelson of McLeansboro, IL and Rita (Mark) Lee of Pinckneyville, IL; a son, Terry (Denita) Allen of Benton, KY; 8 grandchildren, Melissa (Greg) Kaufman, Bethany (Jason) Moore, Brittany ( Michael) McConachie, Matthew Nelson, Jessibeth ( Tim ) Williams, Courtney (Paul) Nehrkorn, Jake ( Erica ) Allen and Clay Allen; 2 step-grandsons, Devin ( Savannah) Griggs and Travis Griggs; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Jerry ( Sandy) Allen; one sister Nancy (Jerry) Prather; 2 sisters-in-law Rose (Tom) Jones and Shirley (Don) Birt; one brother-in-law Marvin Walker and several nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet Walker; an infant sister; and one great-grandson, Dayson Moore.
Gene was a member of Blooming Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Director. He also served as Goshen Trail Baptist Association Moderator. He was co-owner of JA Ag Supply for 44 years.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9 at Blooming Grove Baptist Church, McLeansboro, IL. The Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 with Brother Mark Lee, Brother Jason Moore and Brother Bill Miller officiating. The Service will be live-streamed on Mae Allen’s Facebook. Burial will be at Blooming Grove Cemetery. Social Distancing Guidelines will be observed during services.
