TRAVERSE City - Freeman Elliot Rasho, 83, a lifelong resident of East Bay Township, died peacefully at his home on the farm he loved.
He was born May 19, 1919, in Traverse City, to Freeman and Rose (Bunnell) Rasho. Freeman married Laura Brown on Aug. 8, 1963.
Freeman was employed as a nurse attendant at the Traverse City State Hospital where he retired. He loved farming, hunting and fishing, as well as visiting with the many people he cared about and who cared about him. He had a passion for baseball whether listening to games on the radio or watching them on television or at the ballpark.
He is survived by his children and stepchildren, Dorothy Faulkner, Lewis (Holly Hawkins) Rasho, Luella Sweet, Raymond (Nancy) Landfair, Luene (Denny) Courtade; and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Freeman was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laura Rasho on July 5, 1993; and two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Glen Walters officiating. Interment will be in the Williamsburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayfield Chapel Memorial Fund, currently being used to build a handicap accessible ramp.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
