Mr. Svoboda was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Litchfield, a son of Edward Dan and Edna (Liebscher) Svoboda. He married Doris Harding of Carlinville on April 8, 1950, and she survives.
Growing up in White City, he attended grade school there and graduated from Mt. Olive High School in 1947.
An Army veteran, he served in Korea from 1952 to 1954. He earned a bachelor's degree in general engineering in 1959, from Millikin University in Decatur. He had previously attended Rankin Trade School in St. Louis, MO.
He worked for Brubaker's in Litchfield as a body and fender repairman. Later he worked for Borg Warner, Midas International and Perfection, in the field of automotive fuel and emission controls, until his retirement. He then moved to Sonora, CA ,to help his son, Steven, with his tool and die business.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Kurkis of Plainfield; daughter-in-law, Melissa Svoboda of Twain Harte, CA; and a brother, James Svoboda of Longmont, CO.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David in infancy and Steven.
