Engineer, scientist and industrialist. Pioneer of turbine technology, founding the succesful company C. A. Parsons Ltd. based in Newcastle. Also invented the 'auxetophone' for amplifiynig double-basses, but this proved less popular and profitable. Died on his yacht in Jamaica.
