Michel was the son of Phillippe Etience-dit-Durivage and Marie Gravois. He was born in 1669 in Trois-Rivières, Mauricie Region, Quebec, Canada, and confirmed at Immaculée-Conception, Cathédrale l´Assomption in Trois-Rivières. On Apr 27, 1690, he served as the godfather of his sister Marguerite's son, Jean Baptiste Menard, at Ste-Famille, in Boucherville, Quebec, Canada. In 1714, he received a letter in Kaskaskia from J. Soumande, merchant of Montreal, requesting payment of a 16 year-old debt for supplies.
Michel was a fur trade and served as the First Lieutenant in the militia of Kaskaskia. He married Marie Rouensa Quacantequa, the widow of Michel Aco, in 1703 in Kaskaskia, Illinois. The couple became prominent citizens of the community. The couple were parents of six children.

Michel died in Jan 1746 in Kaskaskia, Randolph County, Illinois. His considerable estate was sealed on Jan 6, 1746, and an inventory of his property was conducted on Jan 14,
1746. A final sale of his property was made on Jan 17, 1746, and the proceeds distributed to his heirs.
