Edward is a direct descendant of Georg Michael (1723-1807) and Anna Margretha (1719-1795) MUMPER. The vast majority of Mumpers, listed here at FindAGrave and otherwise residing in the United States, consider Georg Michael to be the common patriarch.

He was a son of Michael and Elizabeth (Weaver) Mumper. He began farming for himself in 1852 and continued until he retired from active work in 1880. He owned 120 acres of improved land, and twenty acres of woodland.

In 1852 he married Susannah MYERS, of Franklin Township. They had three children:
William H.(1852-1910),
Mary Elizabeth (1858-1923), and
John William (1868-1921).

Susannah died September 15, 1883. In October, 1884, he married Henrietta Gayer Rice, of Adams County.

He was a member of the Reformed Church.
