He attended Kempsville Christian Church, where he was a member of the Family Circle Sunday School Class and the Prime Timers. Survivors include his wife, Alice; his son, Jim; granddaughter, Meredythe; brother-in-law, Michael Greenblatt; and six Massay first cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted at Kempsville Christian Church 5424 Parliament Drive, Virginia Beach, by Josh Childress on Saturday, September 7, at 2 p.m. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service.
His ashes will be interred at a later time in the Harlem Springs Cemetery, Harlem Springs, Ohio, where members of the Massay and Guess families have been buried for generations. The cemetery is located close to his grandparents' farm. He always described the summers he spent as a child on the farm as some of the happiest times of his life. A graveside service will be conducted by George and Alice's niece, Janet Long.
