Belmar Benton "Barney" Barnes
September 03, 1940 - April 29, 2015
Born September 3, 1940 Great Bend, Kansas. Passed away April 29, 2015 Austin, Texas
Born to Barney and Deloris Barnes (Buehler).

After moving to Kingman, KS, Barney would spend summers working with his father on oil drilling rigs inspiring a work ethic that he would carry on through life.

Part of the Kingman High graduating class of 1958, Barney always considered Kansas home even as he travelled the world. Stationed in Germany with the Armored Division, he served in the US Army for two years.

After mustering from the Army, Barney accepted an invitation to visit California, where he settled down, married his first wife Mary, and raised two boys. Working days and attending classes at night, he earned his degree in Buisness Administration from the College of Notre Dame in 1971. His class was the first to graduate males at the former all womens college.

In 1968, he started a career with Lockheed Missile and Space Company in procurement and contract administration.

In 1981 Barney headed south to Texas as part of the new Lockheed Austin division. He had been wearing cowboy boots for years, helping the transition. Soon, he met a wonderful Texas lady who became the love of his life. On October 22, 1986 he married Sally S. Anderson. When Lockheed closed the Austin operation, he chose to retire and remain. Not ready for full retirement, Barney and Tom Williams became partners in a financial advising firm.

Barney re-kindled his enjoyment of golf and became a member and regular player at Onion Creek Country Club. He and Sally loved to travel especially cruises visiting the Caribbean, Hawaii, Vienna, and multiple trips to see their grandchildren in California.

After arriving in California, Barney became a devoted Oakland sports fan, following the Raiders, Athletics, and Warriors. A fan of all UT athletics, he held Lady Longhorns basketball season tickets for years.

Preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Sally, Barney is survived by his sisters Brenda Toto and Kandi Goforth (husband Scott Goforth); brother Randall (companion Richard Branstrator); son Rick Barnes (wife Lorrie Nicoles); son Joe Barnes; and grandchildren Jenna and Ethan Barnes.

A celebration of Barneys life will be at Onion Creek Club in Austin, Saturday May 30th from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm; there will be a formal toast at 1:00pm.

Final interment will be in Kingman, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
