Jane Ruth Johnston

February 12, 1938 - July 18, 2007

SALEM - Jane Ruth Johnston was born in Boulder, Colorado. She moved to Oregon with her family when she was a little girl. She lived in Tillamook, Woodburn, and Salem. She enjoyed decorating wedding cakes, arts and crafts, listening to country music, and growing flowers in her yard. She was a housewife for years, and worked for Salem-Keizer Schools food service. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a very loving and kind person.
Jane was preceded in death by both husbands, Florient Verseman and Jim Johnston; father, Mark Thornton; mother, Gladys Huey Thornton; sister, Leona Kites; brother, Richard Thornton; and son, Dick Verseman.
She is survived by daughters, Diane Scott of Salem and Mary Scott of Boise, Idaho; sons, Don Verseman of Salem, Jimmy Verseman of Salem, Ron Verseman of Salem, Andy Verseman of Pendleton, and Mikey Scribner of Salem; sisters, Peggy Roberts of Salem, Betty Kites of Salem, Coralee Farrell of Salem, Bertha Hartman of Ridgefield, Wash., Jean Watkins of Denver, Colo., Phyllis Betnar of Clarksville, Ark., and Linda Lambert of Blaine, Wash.; brother, Raymond Thornton of Vancouver, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 24 at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen. Interment will follow at City View Cemetery. Arrangements are by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.
