He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Hayes and her husband, Larry J. Hayes of Mannington, one son, James “Butch” Ashcraft of Mannington, and one step-daughter, Donna Jean Costello of Farmington; 5 grandchildren, Cody Lee Hayes, Sasha Marie Hayes, Bobbi Sue Jarrett, Destiny Marie Higgins and Nikki Costello; 8 great-grandchildren, Makayla Leigh Sue Jarrett, Madison Lynn Reams, Carly Marie Reams, Aubrey Lynn Wilson, Aleigha Sue Jade Hayes, Cody Lee Hayes, Jr., Athena Marie Hayes and Coalson Jay Hayes; one sister, Janice Thorne and husband Perry of Mannington; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by wife Janette Sue Ashcraft, who died February 12, 2009; a daughter, Barbara Sue “Susie” Jarrett Ashcraft; one grandchild, Chasity Costello; 6 sisters, Ruby Basnett, Betty Burnett, Esther Basnett, Celestine Dalton, Louise Lafferty and Mildred Roper; one brother, Thomas F. Ashcraft.
Jim served in the United States Marine Corp as a military policeman. He retired from Consolidated National Gas Company in Mannington with 33 years of service. He was a farmer and enjoyed hunting with Jimmy Stewart and Butch Dalton. He will be greatly missed and will be joining his wife and daughter.
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, WV on Saturday, December 13, 2014, from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm with a memorial service beginning at 1:00 pm with Pastor Bill Toothman officiating. In keeping with the wishes of Jim, he will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Make-a-Wish Foundation.
