Christie L. Carey, 67, of Parsons, passed away at 11:23 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Christie Len McKinnis was born on January 31, 1953, in Opolis, Kansas, to David Monroe and Virginia (Higgins) McKinnis. As a young girl, she moved to and attended school in Parsons. In 1971, Christie graduated from Parsons High School.

For many years, she worked at the Katy Clinic as a receptionist and a medical transcriptionist. After the Katy Clinic closed, she began working at Labette Health as a medical office receptionist until her retirement two months ago.

She attended the Parsons Nazarene Church. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandson, Logan. She also enjoyed shopping and baking and was famous for her chocolate sheet cake.

On November 17, 1973, she and Robert D. “Bob” Carey were married in Parsons, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2010.

Survivors include: Her daughter – Stacey Spence of Olathe, Kansas
One grandson – Logan Spence
One sister – Teena Pearce of Erie, Kansas

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Carey, on September 8, 2010; her mother, Virginia Beasley; her father, David McKinnis; two brothers, Randy McKinnis and Wayne McKinnis.

The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The service can be viewed live on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 20.
