On August 26, Mary knocked on the gates of Heaven. When they opened, she saw her Creator; her husband, Adam; her sons, Dennis and Edward; her mother and father; her sisters, Julia, Bobbi, Betty, and Rosie; her brothers, Pete, Jack, Wendy, Frank, and Joe; and numerous relatives and friends. Daughter of Anton and Mary Mitzel. On January 6, 1940, she married Adam Burckhard and spent the next 64 years with him. They were married in Aberdeen, SD and moved to Yakima, WA in 1943. In 1960, they moved to Vancouver, WA, so their youngest son could attend the school for the blind. Mary is survived by her daughters: Marveline Burckhard, Jeanette Burckhard, and Lisa Truax-Thomson; sons: Duane (Sandy) Burckhard and Steve Burckhard; granddaughters: Kim Johnson and Katie Burckhard; grandsons: Scott (Kristin) Burckhard, Mark (Angela) Burckhard, Darren Jr., and Parker Truax; great-grandsons: Bradley, Nicholas, and Aaron Johnson; great-granddaughter, Ainsley Burckhard; sisters: Kate (Leo) Schumacher, Mag (Ed) Dukart, of Yakima, WA, Emma (Les) Roy, and Annie (Wally) Lenseigne of Moxee, WA. Mary was a devout Catholic and a member of the church her entire life. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, gambling at the casinos, watching the Mariners and Seahawks. But her greatest joy was watching the activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary loved her family with all of her heart, as her family loved her. She will be remembered and missed until we meet her again in Heaven. We thank God for letting us have her for 87 years.
