Civil War: Company B, 7th California Infantry

William H. Botsford, age 22 years, enrolled at Marysville, October 22 and mustered-in as private of Captain Alexander Gibson’s Company B, 7th California Infantry, at Marysville October 31, 1864. He was appointed corporal to rank from November 1, 1864. He was appointed sergeant vice James W. Albert, who was reduced to the ranks at his own request, May 1, 1865. Sergeant Botsford was mustered-out, with his company, at Presidio of San Francisco, California, April 26, 1866.

William H. Botsford, age 32 years, was enumerated July 22, 1870, at San Jose, Santa Clara County, California, with James M. Botsford 44, Lottie Botsford 33, Harry C. Botsford 14, Lucy Botsford 12, Frank Botsford 11. William A (sic, H). Botsford, age 40 years and single, was enumerated June 7, 1880, at Bodie, Mono County, California. Death of Wm. Botsford. Word reached here last Saturday that Wm. Botsford had died within one half mile of his cabin in Alida Valley from paralysis. Mr. Botsford was well known here, and the news of his death was a surprise to all. He was a man of peculiar habits, but was honest, upright, and always generous and charitable. The writer was intimately acquainted with him as we "batched" together for some time prior to his departure for Silver Peak. It can be truthfully said, no better man ever lived than Wm. Botsford. (The Yerington Rustler [Yerington, NV], 24 December 1896, 2:3)
