Sergeant Botsford was mustered-out, with his company, at Presidio of San Francisco, California, April 26, 1866.

Word reached here last Saturday that Wm. Botsford had died within one half mile of his cabin in Alida Valley from paralysis. Mr. Botsford was well known here, and the news of his death was a surprise to all. He was a man of peculiar habits, but was honest, upright, and always generous and charitable. The writer was intimately acquainted with him as we "batched" together for some time prior to his departure for Silver Peak. It can be truthfully said, no better man ever lived than Wm. Botsford.
