Born February 2, 1918 in Selbyville, Delaware, Mr. Tubbs attended Culver Military Academy, Lawrenceville School and Yale University. His first wife, Marjorie (Teddy) Chapman Tubbs, died in 1966. His second wife, Jean Wire Tubbs, died in 1990.
He is survived by a son, John Townsend Tubbs, Jr. of Bozeman, Montana; four stepchildren, Marilyn Layton of Lewes, William C. Murphy of Washington, DC, Michele Newman of Bethesda, MD and Melinda Deay of Malvern, PA and seven grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, November 7, 2005, 11 a.m. at PARSELL FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORIUM, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rehoboth Art League, Henlopen Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE or Easter Seals of Delaware, 600 N. DuPont Highway, Suite 100, Georgetown DE 19947.
