EPH BURDICK SHOT
Full Charge of 25 Stephens Caused Death Shortly Accident Occurred
Another one of those tragedies of life which come when we are so little expecting them took place on upper Strawberry last evening near the Olaf Holton ranch, when Eph Burdick accidentially shot himself in the lower abdoman, passing away within fifteen minitues after the accident occurred. Coroner Tagert was called to the scene of the shooting and while no inquest was held these are the facts in the case as appearing in his report.
Mr. and Mrs. Burdick have been living on the Holton ranch and were moving to the Reese ranch a short distance away. They had been moving most of the day, leaving Holton's with the last load about five o'clock in the evening. In unloading the wagon, both Mr. and Mrs. Holton (Burdick) were pulling a mattress on which were several guns. One of these guns, a 25 Stephens was discharged somehow and the bullet struck Mr. Burdick in the lower abdoman. The gun must have been close to him as his wife remarked "Wasn't that a shot?" and Mr. Burdick replied that it was and that he was shot. He was rushed to the Holton place but died before reaching there. The bullet must have struck a vital spot as death came within fifteen minutes after the accident happened. The bullet lodged inside the body.
Mr. Ephriam Burdick was born in Utah, September 25th, 1879. He came to White river twenty-nine years ago and has made his home in ths county since that time. Mr. Burdick has been engaged in the stock business most of the time, having owned several fine ranches in different parts of the county. Mr. Burdick was united in marriage to Miss McFadden and to this union was born three children. all of whom, together with his devoted wife and his parents are left to mourn his sudden passing. Mr. Burdick was a succesful rancher and a good citizen. He has many friends in this county who extend their sympathy to his family.
The funeral services will probably be held Sunday afternoon.
