He was born in East Granby a blacksmith and attended local schools. He moved to Hartford where he was a blacksmith, returning to East Granby in 1932 where he carried on his trade until retirement.
He leaves a son, John H. Viets of East Granby; a daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Burhans of East Granby, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, East Granby.
