Edward A. Kandlik, 88, the business editor of the Chicago Daily News from 1957 to 1961, died Saturday at a hospice in Peoria, Ariz., after a brief illness.
He had lived in Sun City, Ariz., since his retirement from the Daily News in 1972. Services and interment were private.
Mr. Kandlik was born in Chicago and graduated from Schurz High and Northwestern University's School of Commerce.
He spent his career in Chicago business journalism. He first worked for the Chicago Journal of Commerce and the Chicago bureau of the Wall Street Journal. He joined the Chicago Sun when it was launched in 1941 and later worked for the Chicago Sun-Times, serving as assistant business editor on both papers. He came to the Daily News in 1955 as auto editor and business writer.
During his later years on the Daily News, which last published in 1978, he was an investigative reporter and federal beat reporter. He was elected president of the Chicago Press Veterans Association in 1965.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel; a daughter, Kathryn Schlegel; a son, E. Charles Kandlik, and six grandchildren.

OLIVEIRA,ANNE E., Age 31, of Lake Orion, died December 30, 1998, at her home
following a long battle with cancer. She was a graduate of The Rochester
Institute of Technology and most recently had been Art Director of Oakland
University in Rochester Hills. Wife of Gary Oliveira; daughter of Kathryn and
Stephen Schlegel, of Chicago; sister of Jeanne Skaggs and Stephanie Schlegel.
Granddaughter of Ethel L. Kandlik and Elizabeth and Norman Schlegel. Also
survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation 11 a.m. Wednesday at
PIXLEY FUNERAL HOME, 322 W. University Dr. in Rochester until 1:00 p.m. time of
service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anne s name may be made to The
Cure for Lymphoma Foundation or The Leukemia Society of America.
