VanHook, Allen J. "Butch"
Saginaw, Michigan

Our beloved brother went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, August 13, 2007. Age 60 years. He was born May 17, 1947 son of the late Lois M. VanHook (Cantu). No longer burdened with illness, pain or worry, he will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. Allen attended Saginaw Public Schools and later the St. Joseph Catholic School where he played on the basketball team. He also attended Delta College. Allen retired from General Motors in 2002 and was a member of the U.A.W. local #699. He was not a man of many words but he possessed a great sense of humor and a kind heart. Allen was a laid back kind of guy. He had a winning smile and a shy, humble demeanor when he was not playing sports. Allen was a hard worker but his life's message was not to stress yourself about anything. Allen was a natural and true athlete who excelled in sports. He enjoyed bowling, cross country skiing, running, baseball, basketball, racquetball, and golf. Allen was mostly known for his golf game and he amazed people with his golf shots. He was a long time member of Maple Hill Golf Club and the YMCA. Allen shared his love for golf and racquetball by teaching others to play the sports for free. He was a good coach. Allen also had a passion for all types of music. He was also a freelance photographer. Allen leaves to cherish his memory, his loving siblings, Randy (Eva) VanHook, Marcia (Willie) Buchanan and Richard Dean (Tara) Cantu, all of Saginaw, MI.; Six nephews, Donzel Taylor, Randy VanHook Jr., Ennix Buchanan, Willie Jovante Buchanan, Brent Cantu and Brandon Cantu, all of Saginaw, MI.; four nieces, Denanzel (Haven) White, Milwaukee, WI., Candace Buchanan,Atlanta, GA., Anginae Buchanan, Grand Blanc, MI. and Brittany Cantu, Saginaw, MI.; also many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and a special friend, Beverly Bowman. He was predeceased by a special aunt, Lorraine Burden and cousin, Joyce Bell.
