Funeral Rites on Friday for Frank Fenton

Funeral services for Frank L. Fenton, 68, of 410 W. 4th St., Williamstown, president of the Fenton Art Glass Co., of Williamstown, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the residence.

One of this area’s most prominent residents, he died yesterday morning in Camden-Clark memorial hospital where he had been a patient since April 23.

A private burial will be made.

In addition to being president of the class company, he was president of the Farmers and Mechanics Bank in Williamstown and one of the town’s outstanding civic leaders.

He was a member of the First Methodist church of Williamstown and for many years served as chairman of its board. He was a member of the Marietta Chamber of Commerce, the Marietta Reading Club and was a member and past president of the Marietta Rotary Club.

He was born Jan. 24, 1880, at Indiana, Pa., the youngest son of James and Jennie Crawford Fenton. He was graduated from high school at Indiana and in a glass plant there he began the training in glass making which he utilized later so well in Williamstown. He later worked in glass factories in Couderaport, Pa., and Wheeling.

Mr. Fenton and his brothers, John W. Fenton and Charles H. Fenton went into business in Martins Ferry, decorating glassware. Then in 1906, construction of the Fenton works in Williamstown was begun. He was the first and only president of the company and it was under his guidance that it grew from an infant industry to one of major importance.

He served continuously as president of the Farmers and Mechanics Bank since its organization more than 25 years ago.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lillian Muhleman Fenton; seven children, Mrs. Leonard W. Treash, Rochester, N.Y.; Mrs. Wayne R. Archer, Blossbury, Pa.; Mrs. J. W. Bell, Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. M. H. Cummings, Williams; Mrs. Paul Jenkins, Massillon, O.; Frank M. and Wilmer C. Fenton, both of Williamstown and two brothers, Robert C. Fenton, vice-resident of the Fenton Art Glass Co., and William Fenton of Indiana, Pa.
