Kathleen Beth Tapscott Osten lost her brave battle with cancer on Jan. 8, 2012. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Donald Osten of Oregon, Wis.; her daughters Melissa Osten Little of Lodi and Johanna Osten of Stoughton. Additional surviving family members include her father, William Tapscott and his wife Virginia of Santee, Cal.; brother Timothy Tapscott of Barcelona, Spain; sister Marni Tapscott of Lexington, Mass. and sister Linda Tapscott of San Carlos, Cal. She also leaves behind many brothers and sisters in law and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Tapscott.

She enjoyed her work as the managing editor of The McFarland Thistle up until late 2011. The challenging work kept her very busy and she especially enjoyed working with people in the community. Prior to working for the paper, she enjoyed many different jobs including working for various other newspapers and beginning her career as a high school home economics teacher after earning her bachelor's degree in home economics from Oregon State University in 1970.

Kathleen loved anything to do with nature and being outside. Many hobbies included camping, hiking, backpacking, photography, cross country skiing and swimming. She loved the ocean and walking along the beach. Over the years she had the opportunity to live in many beautiful places, from California to Massachusetts and many places in between. Her love of the outdoors was reflected in her creative expressions as well. She enjoyed painting, drawing, weaving, sewing and taking pictures. The subjects of her art were often views or scenes she had enjoyed throughout her travels. The walls of her home are decorated with many creations made over the years.

Kathleen was a loving, caring woman who will be greatly missed by Don, Melissa and Johanna. Her strength through life will continue to be an inspiration to all those she left behind.
