Military rites for Guy Hester, Jr., held Saturday

Military funeral services were held here Saturday at 2 p.m. for Army First Lieutenant Guy Wilson Hester, Jr., who died October 8 in Vietnam. He was wounded October 1 while on patrol with the U. S. Infantry in South Vietnam.

Services were held at Moore Memorial United Methodist Church, followed by interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Lee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Revs. Leo Bailey and Kermit McGregor officiated.

Lt. Hester was a 1964 graduate of Winona High School and was graduated from the United States Military Academy West Point, New York, in June 1969, receiving the Bachelor of Science degree.

He was a member of the Spanish Club, the Military Affairs Club, and the Rocket Society. Lt. Hester was a member of Moore Memorial United Methodist Church.

He had volunteered for service in Vietnam, and was assigned to the 196th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, in South Vietnam. He had been in Vietnam about six weeks when he was wounded.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elsie Lynn Holder Hester, and his parents, Col. and Mrs. Guy W. Hester, all of Winona: and a sister, Dr. Gloria Hester, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Lt. Hester was the grandson of Mrs. W. L. Evans and the late Walter Lee Evans, Isola, and Mrs. Claudia H. Minga and the late Guy Walter Hester, Winona.

Pallbearers were Bob Harper, Mike Sullivan, Bill Gerard, Bill Townsend, Bill Bryan, Pete Collins, Barry Evans, and Butch Bridges.
