Upon promotion to 1st Lt., he was aide to Brig Gen A.P. Blocksom and later to Brig Gen J. W. Heard. He was discharged April 18, 1919.
He was the Chief Engineer Wailuku Sugar Co. in 1919 and became the assistant Manager in 1922.
Later in life Bert was an international sales representative for Caterpillar Tractor Co., out of Peoria, Illinois, a position that entailed extensive travel throughout Central and South America.
To his friends he was known as "Bert", but to his children and grandchildren he was "Pop"'
