Obituary:
Andrew Jackson VanTassel, 81, of 3216 DeWitt, formerly of Greenup, died at 8:15 a.m. today at the Douglas Nursing Center, where he had been a patient about three months.
Funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at the Hiles funeral home in Greenup, with burial in Hurricane cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday.
Born March 23, 1884, in Nebraska, Mr. VanTassel was the son of Andrew Jackson and Jane Bennett VanTassel.
He was a retired farmer and elementary school teacher. He had lived in Mattoon the past 11 years.
Surviving are his widow, Mary; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Woodard and Mrs. Pheba Higgins, both of Mattoon, and Mrs. Izetta Pitcher, Montrose; three sons, Vance, Robinson; Royal, Michell, Ind., and Lance, Muncie, Ind., 25 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren.
