Jimmie was born on Easter Sunday April 17, 1938 in Garrison, Texas and left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on August 2, 2020. Jimmie was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann (Meek) Cantrell, his infant son Dennis Iverson Cantrell and his parents, Forrest Homer Jimmie David Cantrell, and wife Cloma O’Neil (Barton) Cantrell Evans. He is survived by his daughters Sheri Simpson of Dallas and Brandi Davis of Carrollton, Texas, sister Betty Royston of New Fairview, Texas, brother John Cantrell of Omaha, Nebraska, two granddaughters, five grandsons, several great granddaughters and great grandsons, three nieces, three nephews, as well as several cousins and by his special friend Lynda Cole and her son Kevin Coker of Aubrey, Texas. Jimmie married Betty Ann Meek on June 8, 1957 and soon after, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Spiegel Grove LSD-32 until he was discharged in April 1961. Jimmie joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9168 in Lewisville, Texas in 1966 and immediately began actively participating in all activities. His favorite program was the Voice of Democracy Americanism Essay contest and he also enjoyed working with various youth programs. He served the VFW in various capacities, as Post Commander, District Commander, State Commander, National Council Member and National Chief of Staff. He was Post Quartermaster and Canteen Manager for over fifteen years. He was retired from General Telephone company and was also a member of Lewisville Masonic Lodge #201.
Services will be held at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 11:30am with interment at Dallas National Cemetery following.

In Lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made in his memory to the VFW Post 9168 New Building Fund P.O. Box 275, Lewisville, Texas 75067 Attn: Quartermaster.
