bur. June 2, 1949.At the time he met his 3rd wife, Sara Barker Strayer who attained fame as "Margery Wilson"in the Silent Movies, Vance L. Bushnell was Vice-President of Equitable Life Assurance Company; and before that, he was Vice-President of The Marine Midland, and the Continental Bank.

"He was a tall (6ft.4inch), handsome, serene, gracious man with luminous, warm, kindly eyes—eyes that were gentle but looked through you and understood you. It was the look I been searching for all my life. I knew that look belonged to me" Margery Wilson wrote of him in her autobiography.

She wrote that his talents were not only mathematical, actuarial, and banking. He was a sportsman, owned stock in one of the first vitamin companies. While majoring in architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, he was sent as an honor student to the Beaux Arts in Paris. World War I was declared in Europe and he enlisted in England in the Coldstream Guards.

When the US entered the war, he transferred to the US military. He was injured 6 times, left for dead once; but scouting dogs kept barking over him until stretcher bearers picked him up.

In WWI, the top of his lungs were shriveled by gas; and later developed a tricky heart. He and Margery (Sara) were married 3 months later on her birthday, October 31, about 1940 (the year is uncertain but the month and day are correct).

He was previously married to (1) Catherine Unknown listed in 1930 census; and (2) Julia W. Collins in Marion Indiana. Vance had 2 children, Barry Bushnell & Barbara Bushnell.

Vance, his 3rd wife Margery, his 2 children, & Margery's daughter, Elizabeth Mildred Meek, moved into 1175 Park Avenue, New York City, but kept Margery's country mansion in Connecticut, she had named Brookstone. Margery wrote that the happiest years of her life were at that address with Vance.

Vance L. Bushnel died of heart failure at the age of 53 in May 1948.
