Mr. J. B. Wood, one of the early settlers of the Hiawatha Valley, passed away at his home Sunday afternoon (March 12, 1916) aged 77 years.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the home by Rev. Terry of Wauneta, assisted by Rev. Liston Ford, and interment took place in the Hiawatha Cemetery.
He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, four sons and one daughter.
Deceased came to Dundy county in 1889 from the eastern part of the state, and served as postmaster at Hiawatha for over twenty years, relinquishing the job about four years ago on account of failing health.

J.B. was the second of ten children born to Archibald Joshua & Mary C. Wilcox Wood . He married Abby Jane Morgan on June 23, 1863 in Yonkers, New York. They had two sons, Frank Burk & George S. born while living in New York. They moved their little family to Otoe County Nebraska, near Syracuse in 1867, where four more children were born - Ella Mae, Albert Martin, Byron Clifford and Wilber Edgar.
