Death Summons Charles Peters
Resident of county all his life. Funeral to be held Friday afternoon.
Charles Peters, youngest of six children of Elizabeth and William Peters, was born in Smelser, WI Dec 25, 1860, and pass away Jan 28, 1929, at the age of 68 years, 1 month, and 3 days. While still a young child, the father passed away while at war; and Charles continued to live with his mother until at the age of twelve years, when he went to live with his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Chase. On Feb 25, 1883 he was united in marriage with Miss Sophia Keeney, the Rev. F. J. Lewis, minister of the Methodist Episcopal church at Georgetown. To this union were born seven children, three sons, and four daughters, the sons all passing away in infancy, and the eldest daughter, Mrs. Sarah Peacey, departed this life nineteen years ago. Mr. Peters and family made their home on a farm near Georgetown for several years before moving into the city of Platteville, since which time has always been their home place. About five years ago Mr. Peters suffered a nervous breakdown and has been in failing health since. He passed peacefully away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Hudson, in this city at 11:45 p.m., Monday night. He said shortly before the end, "I am going home". He was a man of quiet disposition, and was not known to have any enemy; a great lover of horses and of outdoor surroundings. Besides his four children, who preceded him in death, his parents, two sisters and one brother have also passed before him to the Great Beyond. He leaves to morn their loss, his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Harry McPail, Mrs. John Hudson, and Miss Lulu Peters, all of this city; also three grandchildren, Ethel and Orville McPhail, and Lucille Hudson, also a host of friends. The funeral services are to be held Friday at 2:00 p.m., from the Congregational church, Rev. Rob't F. Merritt, officiating. The body will be placed in the mausoleum at Greenwood, until a later date, when burial will be made at Piddington cemetery.
