Gladys Ruth Vaughan Baker
Mrs. Gladys Ruth Vaughan Baker, age 93, of Scotts Hill, Tennessee, departed this life Monday morning, August 4, 2020, in ICU at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Mrs. Baker, the only daughter of Edd Hamilton and Ella Mae Ervin Vaughan, was born December 16, 1926, on the George William Vaughan, Sr. farm in the Shandy Community. She attended Ebenezer Community School and graduated from Central High School in Bolivar, in 1944. Ruth and Joe Joe Baker eloped to Corinth, Mississippi December 28, 1945, while Joe Joe was on furlough from the Army. Through the years, they lived in Texas, Arkansas and Florida, but spent most of their years together in Tennessee, first in the Walnut Grove Community, then the Ebenezer Community and finally Scotts Hill.

Mrs. Baker was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who worked most of her adult life, both in Hardeman County and Florida, and retired from Hardeman Garment Corporation in Bolivar. Her favorite pastime was gardening, and she was an expert with a very green thumb. Gardenias and roses were her passion, but all of her beautiful flowers gave her great joy. She was also a wonderful country cook who never failed to serve delicious holiday feasts to her family, and remembered the birthday of each family member with a special made-to-order meal. Her most requested menu items were Chicken and Dumplings, and her Chocolate and Pecan Pies. She bravely fought and survived numerous bouts of cancer.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Joe Joe Baker. Survivors include two daughters, Janet Patricia Baker Lambert (John-deceased) of Silerton and Deborah Elaine Baker Haberski (Steve) of Imlay City, Michigan; a son, Joed Anthony Baker (fiancé Lisa) of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Carmen Camille Lambert Claybrook (Stephen), Stephanie Elaine Haberski Abke (Dave), Derek Stephen Haberski (Tonya), Charles Lewis Haberski (Bethany), Kirk Alan Haberski (Sophia), Joed Anthony Baker, II (Chandis), Jonathan William Baker (Kim) and James Hamilton Baker (Brittany); and 11 great grandchildren, Darby Dean YuanHai Claybrook and Henry Stephen FuLi Claybrook, Izabella Mazie and Jazmine Sierra Haberski, Riley Nicole and Nicholas Richard Abke, Hunter Henrik Haberski, Lewis Wayne Haberski, Dakota Anthony Baker, John Luke Hamilton Baker and Hazel Christine Baker.

The family requests memorial donations in Mrs. Baker's name be made to the American Cancer Society or the Ebenezer Cemetery Fund.
