THURMONT - J. Norbert Wivell Sr., 72, of Thurmont RD 2, died Saturday at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 11, 1908, in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Lingg Wivell. His wife, Fannie Bollinger Wivell, died in 1963.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Shrine near Emmitsburg.

Surviving are 11 children, Mrs. Mary B. Haines of Gettysburg, Pa., Glenn W. Wivell of Union Bridge, Mrs. R. Lucille Rolland of Rouzerville, Pa.; Mrs. Bernadette M. Muller of York, Pa., Mrs. Emma M. Stambaugh of Taneytown, Vincent D. Wivell of Hanover, Pa., Francis E. Wivell of Aspen, Pa.; Miss Frances E. Wivell of Baltimore, M. Stanley Wivell of Bowie, James N. Wivell Jr. and Allen J. Wivell, both of Thurmont; 24 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Sister M. Cyril of Baltimore, Mrs. Gertrude Topper of Fairfield, Pa., and Mrs. Agnes Topper of Emmitsburg; and a brother, Frederick Wivell of McSherrystown, Pa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Shrine near Emmitsburg. The Rev. Fr. William A. McEvoy, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Emmitsburg. Friends may call at the Thurmont Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey and Son, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont, this evening from 7 to 9. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home this evening at 8.
