John was married first to Beverly Reinhold and second to Marni Peterson.

He was first married on September 29, 1956 at the First Methodist Church, Willmette, Illinois to John Andrew Peterson. John Peterson was the son of Priscilla "Pat" T. Peterson Bleimehl of Des Plaines, IL and Arthur Jennings Peterson of Wilmette, IL. John Peterson's brother David L. Peterson served as Usher and his sister Amy Peterson (later - married name Kolflat of Houston, TX) served as a bridesmaid.

Also surviving are his children by his marriage to Marni, (deceased), Lisa McCary (Dennis), Nan Becker, and Kevin Peterson (Marie); grandchildren, Lea and Shana. He is also survived by his brother David and Barbara Peterson; sister Amy and Fred Kolflat. John and Marni were the owners of Peterson Lumber Co. in Albuquerque. Arrangements have been entrusted to:
