He joined the US Air Force in 1954, completed Jet Pilot School at Laredo AFB in 1955, and was then stationed in Yuma, Arizona, Tampa, Florida, and Anchorage, Alaska, before being assigned to Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Alabama. He did one tour of duty in Korea during this assignment, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1977. After retiring from the USAF, he became a Realtor/appraiser. He was a jack of all trades and mastered them all: woodworking, clockmaking, beekeeping, gardening, and more than anything, playing and singing music. He loved golf and dove shoots. He collected clocks, guns, and tractors, among many other things. He loved his friends, especially his Mavericks Sunday School class and the Downtowner Coffee Group.
He is survived by his wife, seven children, 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at First Baptist Church of Selma, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Jerry Light officiating.
A private burial will be held Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to Selma Funeral Home.
