Edwin Ahlquist, age 73, of Hartford, SD passed away on Wednesday, August 19th, 2020. His funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, August 26th, 2020 at Miller Funeral Home (507 S. Main Sioux Falls). Visitation with family will be from 5:00-7:00pm Tuesday.

Edwin was born on July 27th, 1947 to Edgar and Louella (Campbell) Ahlquist in Luverne, MN. The family soon moved to South Dakota where he attended school. In 1968, Edwin was drafted into the United States Army. He had great pride for bravely serving our country until 1973 when he was honorably discharged after returning from an 11-month deployment in Vietnam.

On November 24, 1973, Edwin married Lana Hanisch in Humboldt, SD. The couple moved to their acreage north of Hartford, SD where they raised their five children. Edwin worked for Proehl Construction as the company foreman for over 30 years. He and his crew traveled countless miles building many of the water tower foundations you see today. Edwin was a son, brother, loving father, kind-hearted grandfather, fantastic friend, and the role model we all strive to be. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Edwin had a plethora of talents and an unsurpassed attention to detail. He especially enjoyed being in his garage where he could be found woodworking, fixing just about anything, detailing his vehicles, and listening to Merle Haggard.

After retiring, and later moving into town, Edwin discovered new ways to keep himself busy. Through the years his routine consisted of visiting his kids, grandkids, babysitting his great granddaughter London, going for many drives in the countryside, reminiscing over coffee with his siblings, conquering the daily crossword, and most importantly seeing if he had correctly guessed the color of Vanna's dress on The Wheel of Fortune.

Edwin is survived by Lana of Canistota; daughter Sonja of Hartford; sons, Paul (Teri) of Humboldt, Jesse (Charity) of Sioux Falls, Andy (Shavonne) of Crooks, and James of Canistota; 11 grandchildren; Nicole, Josh, Taylor (Tori), Alexis (Miguel), Courtney, Chelsea, Brody, Brayden, Braelyn, Mac, and Mav; 6 great-grandchildren, London, Beckham, Nala, Noah, Kinzley, and soon to arrive baby Amiya; and his brother Al (Colleen) Ahlquist of Hartford, SD
