This is the family history as I Lottie Dean, remember it; remember what has been told to me, and got from records. My grandfather, George Addison (Ad) Dean said he was born in Kentucky where the Little Sandy ran into the Big Sandy River. Records show it was Louisa, Kentucky, Nov. 5, 1859. His mother Rhoda Manervia Stewart was born in Virginia (now West Virginia). Census 1850 list Harvey Stewart, wife Sarah, daughter Manervia age 8. Her parents separated and her father kidnapped her on horseback and took her across the river into Kentucky. Manervia's mother died in 1852 or 3. In 1853 her father married Julia Ann Grubb. They had four children.
Grandpa's parents moved to Missouri when he was young and he grew up there. Harvey Stewart's second wife died and he and the children came and lived with Grandpa's parents, William E. and Manervia Dean. Therefore Grandpa grew up with his uncles George, Rile, and Mark who were near his age. Grandpa said the grass was so tall and their house so small that they put a rag on a tall pole so the children could find the house when they were out playing.
When he was a teenager they moved to Southwest Missouri near Anderson. Here he met and married my grandmother, Martha Louisa (Liza) Bussell, when he was 19 and she 15.
Great Grandfather Bussell was one fourth Indian. I do not know his or his wife's names. He was shot and killed by carpetbaggers following the Civil War when Grandma was 5 years old. (Great) Grandmother Bussell and girls then went to near Anderson, Missouri where she had a brother. My grandmother ( Martha Louisa Bussell) never got to attend school but she could read and was very good with numbers. She couldn't put problems on paper but it was surprising what she could do in her head. They (Liza and Ad) were in business for many years.
*PLEASE NOTE: The information on this history was the information available to Lottie Dean at the time of writing. Other pertinent information may not have been discovered at this time. (When Thomas Harvey Stewart married Julia, his status on the marriage certificate was listed as divorced, so his former wife may not have died at that time).

Gravesite Details
The cemetery is well kept. The stone has been repaired with two steel rods in holes drilled in the pieces. Whoever did the repair did it well. Thank you to whoever was so kind. Other additional info kindly provided by contributor Richard Mayo.
