Helen C. Harper was born March 7, 1924, in Clark County, Kansas and died Aug. 14, 2020, at Pratt, Kansas. She was the daughter of Evan J. and Mary Louise Yeothan Chappee.

A longtime resident of the Kingman and Penalosa communities, moving to Sawyer in 2013 to live with her son, she was a retired Meat Inspector for the State of Kansas. She was also one of the first female federal meat inspectors in the State of Kansas.

Helen was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, the D of I, Altar Society, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, all of Kingman.

On Jan. 3, 1949, she married Owen V. Harper in Wichita; he died May 21, 2012. Survivors include son Mike; 5 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by son Drue; daughter Erma; grandson Matt Neal; brother Jack; and sisters Rosemary and Jeanne.
