Carlton Leonard "Cork" Bowden, 80, of Temperanceville, VA passed away on December 25, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Chincoteague Island, VA on June 5, 1937 to the late Clarence Bowden and Jeanette (Simpson) Beebe.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company, Ready Sunday School Class, and Masonic Lodge #243.
Carlton is survived by his loving spouse of 45 years, Sara Bowden of Temperanceville, VA; three sons, Kerry Wayne Bowden and his wife Fara of Temperanceville, VA, Thomas Lee Bowden of Assawoman, VA, Wesley McDonald and his wife Annie of Chincoteague Island, VA; daughter, Sue Ellen Bowden of Chincoteague Island, VA; granddaughter, Sheanna Rae Bowden of Chincoteague Island, VA; grandson, Avery Conklin of Chincoteague Island, VA; two brothers, Clarence Bowden and his wife Ernestine of Atlantic, VA, Jimmy Bowden and his wife Sandy of Assawoman, VA; two sisters, Betty Hoffman of Easton, PA, Bertie Lenn and her husband Raymond of Saint Clair, MI; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Burton Bowden, mother, Jeanette Beebe, son, Carlton Leonard Bowden, Jr.and four siblings, Jack Bowden, Indiana Ellerbee, Madeline Ainsworth, and Eunice Fecteau.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2017, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm with a Masonic Service at 7:30 PM at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., Chincoteague Island, VA.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017, 2:00 pm at the Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, with Rev. Kevin Eley, officiating.
