Mary was born in Westerly, the daughter of the late Edward and Rose (Montalto) Lallo. She lived in Montclair and North Caldwell for 45 years. She was the secretary to the president of the University of Pennsylvania in the late 1950s and most recently served for 21 years as Customer Service Administrator for the Economics Press of Fairfield, N.J.
She was highly accomplished at knitting and related crafts and gave many beautiful gifts of her handiwork to family and friends. She was a travel enthusiast. During her overseas vacations, she visited several European countries and spent time in 18 of the 20 regions of Italy.
Mary was the beloved wife of Edward V. O'Connell of North Caldwell and is also survived by her sister, Barbara Sisco; brothers, John and Edward Lallo; and numerous nieces and nephews in Westerly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 64 Friendship St., Westerly.
