Betty J. Rock Valparaiso Betty J. Rock, age 73, of Valparaiso, IN passed away April 13, 2004 at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso, Indiana. She was born December 7,1930, in Warrior, Alabama, to Ralph Cato and Annie (Tuck) ,both of whom preceded her in death. She married December 20, 1947, in Kimberly Alabama, John D. Rock, Jr. who preceded her in death. She is survived by son, John E. (Deborah) Rock, Valparaiso, IN; daughters, Judy (Paul) Harwood of Medaryville,IN, Brenda (Douglas) Bow, Valparaiso,IN, Donna (Kent) Biggs, Wanatah, IN, Vicki Rock, Valparaiso,IN. Ronda Rock preceded; brothers, Beryl Mahaffey of Alabama, and Boyd Mahaffey of Alabama, Preceded by Ray, J.L. and Adrian Cato, Buddy, Bobby and Barney Mahaffey; sisters, Violet (Ken) Dant of Florida, and Laverne (Joe) Rickels of Alabama; grandchildren, John David Rock, Christina Rock, Chad Adams, Duston Bow, Darlene Rock-Harwood, Kurt and Kris Biggs and one preceded Kimberly Harwood. Preceded in death by Step-father, Bernice Mahaffey. Funeral service will be held Friday, April 16, 2004, at 1 PM at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana with Pastor Duane Schmidt officiating. Interment, Heritage Cemetery, Portage, Indiana.Visitation Thursday, April 15, 2004 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel. Betty had been an area resident for most of her life coming from Alabama and she was a homemaker.Published in The Times on Apr. 15, 2004
Betty was named Annie Ralph Cato on her birth certificate. Her mother & father couldn't decide on a name. Name change came from her sister Violet calling her Betty Jean.
