Catherine Dorothea Kahl, one of 7 children of Heinrich and Anna Moeller Kahl, was born in Kiel, Germany September 14, 1867 and passed away at the hospital at Spirit Lake at 4 Saturday morning October 1st just 16 days shy of her 82nd birthday.

Mrs. Claussen who has lived in Lake Park for the last 22 years has suffered with asthma for several years. For the last 2 years she was under doctors care and at times had been hospitalized for treatment of her heart. A week ago she became worse and on Wednesday returned to the hospital.

She was very active for her years and took great pride in her flowers and putting in her garden. She loved her family and home and was satisfied to live the quiet life with her children after her husband, Henry passed away at Lime Springs, Iowa on May 4, 1916.

She was baptized Lutheran in infancy. At the age of 14, she left Germany with her parents and youngest brother (Frederick) to come to American to join her sister and older brothers. They settled in Davenport where they farmed. She met and then married Henry Claussen on April 21, 1887. 18 years later they moved to Lyon County, Iowa near Inwood to farm for 7 years until they moved to Ogema, Minnesota. 3 years later in 1915 they moved to Lime Springs and there the next year her husband passed away. She continued to farm with the help of her children until they moved to Lake Park in 1927 and has lived in the same house since.

She is the mother of 5 children, all of whom survive to mourn the loss of a loving and devoted mother. They are: Emma, Mrs. Carl Schroder of Ramona, SD, Emil Claussen, Anna Claussen, and Otto Claussen, all at home and Ella, Mrs. Louis Baumgarn of Lakefield, Minnesota. She also leaves 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also one brother, Detlef Kahl, 89 of Davenport. Burial was in Silver Lake Cemetery.
