Daughter of Julius Matten (1870-1915) and Clementine Eudoxia Van Thuyne (1876-1943). Her father died in a workplace accident at the Piper No 2 mine as a result of dynamite caps exploding before he could clear the area. He was buried in the Blocton Italian Catholic Cemetery in Bibb County, AL. Married Charles George Hoene Sr in 1935. They had one child, Charles George Hoene Jr (1937-1953).
