SALINA, KANSAS ~ David C. Bean, a well known old settler and a member of the G.A.R. died this morning at the home of his son, William H. Bean, four miles northwest of Salina. Mr. Bean first came to Saline County in 1878 from Chester, Illinois, and was well known among the early settlers of the county. Later Mr. Bean went to Leoti, KS, where he lived for 15 years, but 12 years ago he returned to this county where he had since made his home with his son. He was born near Oxford, Ohio, on February 6, 1836, but removed to Illinois when he was quite young.

Mr. Bean served in the Civil War as a member of the 42nd Illinois Infantry and has been a member of John A. Logan post No. 127 of Salina. He was married on March 3, 1858 to Lydia Bilderback. Mrs. Bean died several years ago, and two children also preceded Mr. Bean in death.

Mr. Bean leaves six children, two of whom live here - William H. Bean and Mrs. R.A. (Margaret) Mayo; James D. Bean of Silverwood, Indiana; Samuel W. Bean of Spokane, Washington, Curtis D. Bean of Sprague, Washington; and Chesley A. Bean of Tribune, Kansas.

Mr. Bean was a member of the Presbyterian church. The funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at the son's home northwest of the city. The burial will be in the Shiloh cemetery.
